Fortified Wine
Fortified wines are wines to which a distilled spirit is added to arrest the fermentation and increase both stability and longevity. Usually Brandy is the added spirit and this gives a higher alcohol content to the final product. The most common fortified wines are Sherry from England, Porto and Madeira from Portugal and Marsala from Sicily (Italy).
