Rare Brut 2006 Vintage Champagne 75cl Gift Box

Rare Champagne lives up to its name as it has only been produced eleven times since 1976 (1976, 1979, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2006, 2007, and 2008). The Chef de Cave is Champagne legend Régis Camus, whose meticulous winemaking has earned him eight times the title of Sparkling Winemaker of the Year at the IWC.

The wine was created as a result of a battle with nature; in 1976, it followed an exceptionally dry period and in 1985, it did so after a terrible black frost.

Rare Champagne pays homage to the heyday of Versailles, when Florens-Louis Heidsieck, the company's founder, gave Marie Antoinette his first-ever "prestige cuvée" in 1785, saying that he wanted to create a "cuvée worthy of a queen."

Rare 2006 is a testament to this sunny vintage, which produced a Champagne with great concentration. It is opulent, rich and intense.

Grape: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
Grapes were in excellent health thanks to an unusually hot June and July but a cool, wet August slowed ripening. Fortunately, the ripening process could be finished due to the warm, dry September and harvest began in early September. Due to this, the champagnes made were very concentrated, rich and supple.
Mango, orange zest and apricot pastries on the nose, followed by more pronounced notes of toast, vanilla and Oriental spices. Spices in the complex bouquet combine to create a delicate, prolonged finish.

Régis Camus, the guardian of the Rare Champagne style, chooses the vineyards based on their expression as opposed to their rank in the scale of Premiers and Grand Crus. This blending strategy helps to create Rare Champagne's complex, distinguished and yet pure style. By using Chardonnay grapes from the Montagne de Reims, a region more commonly known for producing Pinot Noir, he thinks outside the box and gives the wine a crisp, precise minerality. He also prefers the Pinot Noir grapes from the Montagne de Reims because of their intense flavour and silky texture (like Verzy or Ay).
